چکیده

It has been revealed that in organic horizons and plants of the tundra and taiga ecosystems under low temperatures, actinomycetal complexes form. The population density of psychrotolerant actinomycetes in organic horizons and plants reaches tens and hundreds of thousands CFU/g of substrate or soil, and decreases in the sequence litters > plants > soils > undecomposed plant remains > moss growths. The myce lium length of psychrotolerant actinomycetes reaches 220 m/g of substrate. Application of the FISH method has demonstrated that metabolically active psychrotolerant bacteria of the phylum Actinobacteria constitute 30% of all metabolically active psychrotolerant representatives of the Bacterià domain of the prokaryotic microbial community of soils and plants. Psychrotolerant actinomycetes in tundra and taiga ecosystems pos sess antimicrobial properties.

Soil amino acid turnover dominates the nitrogen flux in permafrost-dominated taiga forest soils

Black spruce (Picea mariana) forests represent the dominant vegetation type throughout the North American and Siberian taiga and are generally considered ro be pristine, N-limiting environments. The aim of this sludy was to investigate the fundamental underlying mechanisms which control N availabil~ty in these soils with particuiar reference to the dynamics of dissolved organic nitrogen (DON) O...

Soil bacterial community composition altered by increased nutrient availability in Arctic tundra soils

The pool of soil organic carbon (SOC) in the Arctic is disproportionally large compared to those in other biomes. This large quantity of SOC accumulated over millennia due to slow rates of decomposition relative to net primary productivity. Decomposition is constrained by low temperatures and nutrient concentrations, which limit soil microbial activity. We investigated how nutrients limit bacte...

High-resolution mapping and spatial variability of soil organic carbon storage in permafrost environments

Large amounts of carbon are stored in soils of the northern circumpolar permafrost region. Highresolution mapping of this soil organic carbon (SOC) is important to better understand and predict local to global scale carbon dynamics. In this thesis, studies from five different areas across the permafrost region indicate a pattern of generally higher SOC storage in Arctic tundra soils compared to...

Soil Temperature, Moisture, and Carbon and Nitrogen Mineralization at a Taiga-Tundra Ecotone, Noatak National Preserve, Northwestern Alaska

Northwestern Alaska has been warming (0.3°C/yr) since the early 1990s. Ecotonal (treeline) Arctic ecosystems are expected to exhibit the effects of climate change earliest. High-latitude terrestrial ecosystems contain from 30 to 45 percent of the global organic-C pool. Soil warming may enhance release of CO2 and CH4, soil N mineralization, and the production and export of dissolved organic C an...

The impact of climate change on ecosystem carbon dynamics at the Scandinavian mountain birch forest-tundra heath ecotone.

Changes in temperature and moisture resulting from climate change are likely to strongly modify the ecosystem carbon sequestration capacity in high-latitude areas, both through vegetation shifts and via direct warming effects on photosynthesis and decomposition. This paper offers a synthesis of research addressing the potential impacts of climate warming on soil processes and carbon fluxes at t...
